CHEPTA Mission Statement:

To support and enhance the Crescent Heights Elementary (CHE) model of academic excellence, sense of community and respect for all, enabling all CHE students to become lifelong learners and responsible citizens.

Reminder:  The next PTA meeting  is set for Tuesday, February 13th at 7:00 p.m.  We do not have child care arranged for this meeting, and this meeting will be in the Library.

Breaking News:  The Tacoma City Council passed a moratorium on Planned Residential Developments such as the one proposed for the Northshore Golf Course property.  The new owners of Northshore Golf Course did file a PRD permitting plan with the Tacoma Planning Commission on the Monday before the emergency moratorium was enacted, so there may be no relief available to our school community in that legislation.  However, other actions are being considered, including a request to the planning commission that a full environmental impact statement be required of the developer before permitting is allowed.  Residential and school community groups are discussing the need to hire an attorney with residential and environmental impact experience to review options to keep this one and only open space open in Northeast Tacoma.  Dr. Milligan was in attendance at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, January 30th and testified to the consequences of allowing this proposed residential community to be developed as proposed.  All three elementary schools and Meeker Middle school were declared to be at or above attendance maximum and that the district had no land or money to build a new school anywhere in Tacoma, let alone in Northeast Tacoma.
